The Kraken could do much worse than a player of Namestnikov’s caliber from one of the weakest teams in the NHL. Despite moving around frequently over the last few years, Namestnikov has been productive in the past, most notably with the Lightning, where he was a 20 goal-scorer in 2017-18.

A 2011 first-round pick of the Tampa Bay Lightning, the Red Wings are his fifth NHL team in just seven full NHL seasons. Namestnikov has put together a solid career to this point, rapidly approaching 500 career games and recently eclipsing 200 career points.
Younger, higher-upside options will certainly be the priority for the Red Wings, leaving them likely to render the Russian winger available to the league’s newest franchise. His career success didn’t translate to his first year in Detroit, as he put up a career-low point total for a season in which he played 50 or more games. Slightly edged by Adam Erne to be kept by Detroit in my projection, Namestnikov has the track record to be a solid middle-six contributor for the Kraken. Seattle will need to get creative in order to get value from their selection, but several forwards that should be exposed could have the potential to make an impact in Seattle. The Red Wings shouldn’t be any worse for wear, as their young team is mostly exempt from the draft, and the notables that aren’t exempt will surely be protected. A seemingly unassuming team, the Red Wings could actually give Seattle several convincing options to improve their depth at forward.
